The invention relates to a method for producing phytoene and/or phytofluene or mixtures of carotenoids having a high content of same. The invention describes a biotechnological method which can be used to obtain stabilised preparations of phytoene and/or phytofluene or mixtures of carotenoids having a high content of same in a simple, effective, large-scale manner, using novel mutated strains of Paracoccus sp. (FA1 and FA3) that overexpress phytoene and/or phytofluene.
