The system has an electronic control unit (10) provided with a control module (11) for controlling thermal regulation of a fuel cell (1) and air supply circuit. The control module controls output of the system depending on current intensity delivered by the fuel cell, temperature in the fuel cell and pressure in membrane (1a) of the fuel cell, while complying with zero water balance in the fuel cell. The temperature in the fuel cell is ranged between minimum and maximum temperatures, and the pressure at the membrane of the fuel cell is ranged between minimum and maximum pressures. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling a fuel cell system.
