PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high pressure fuel pump of a short overall length manufacturable at low cost, in which the cylindricity of the internal circumferential surface of its cylinder is well secured. SOLUTION: The high pressure fuel pumps 100 and 200 are equipped with: housing 1 and 1Z having a pressurizing chamber 1a and cylinder 1c; a plunger 2 inserted into the cylinder 1c slidably and pressurizing the fuel sucked in to the chamber 1a; a plunger spring 4 to pull back the plunger 2 to the direction opposite the chamber 1a; and a flange 3 welded to the housings 1 and 1Z to serve for mounting the pumps 100 and 200 on the engine, wherein the housings 1 and 1Z are furnished with annular grooves 1g and 1h between the cylinder 1c and the flange 3 in such a manner as surrounding the cylinder 1c.
