PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for cleaning by which a deposit near a thermal head is effectively removed at low cost, and a load of the thermal head is reduced. SOLUTION: The method for cleaning the thermal head is characterized in that heating elements 21a corresponding to printing pixels out of a plurality heating elements 21a are energized so as to attain a heating temperature for forming holes in a stencil printing base paper 23, and heating elements 23a not corresponding to the printing pixels are energized so as to attain a heating temperature for not forming holes in the stencil printing base paper 23, while printing the stencil printing base paper 23 by one printing plate.
