The level of a steroid hormone, selected from cortisol, testosterone and dehydroepiandrosterone, in a biological sample is measured by a method comprising the following steps: (a) providing a biological sample; (b) providing a first antibody capable of binding the steroid hormone; (c) providing a flow of a) and b) separately or together to an immobilised steroid hormone bound to a surface via a linker; (d) providing a flow of a second antibody capable of binding to the first antibody, wherein the second antibody is bound to a macromolecule or a nanoparticle; and (e) detecting the amount of primary antibody bound to the immobilised steroid hormone by a surface plasmon resonance detection system.
