<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an external storage device, an information management method, and an information management program for enabling a data management source to obtain content of missing data stored in an external storage device. <P>SOLUTION: An external storage device 2 connectable to a computer 3 comprises an authentication information request means for requesting a user to input authentication information when a data access request from the user is received; an authentication determination means for determining the success/failure of the authentication by comparing the input authentication information with legitimate authentication information; an information generation means for generating information related to data whose data access request from the user has been received if the authentication fails; and an information transmission means for transmitting the generated information to a predetermined destination.
