PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device and a luminaire capable of reducing the risk due to service life of solder joints. SOLUTION: A chopper choke CC and a ballast choke BC are respectively equipped with a secondary winding. Voltage detection circuits 51 and 52 are provided and respectively connected to the secondary windings of the chopper choke CC and the ballast choke BC to detect voltages induced by the secondary windings. When either of the voltage detection circuits 51 and 52 detects no voltage, the control circuit 4 performs a prescribed protective operation for protecting circuit components. In each of the chopper choke CC and the ballast choke BC, solder joints of the secondary windings are made more fragile than the solder joints of the primary windings. The risk due to the service life of the solder joints is reduced since the protective operation is performed before the solder joint of the primary winding breaks. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
