PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To raise a yield in a manufacturing process of an image display apparatus to reduce expenses by giving a structure suitable for improving strength by chemical polishing to the image display apparatus with a glass substrate. SOLUTION: In this image display apparatus with a first substrate made of glass while having a main face on which a plurality of pixels and its control wiring are formed, and a second substrate which overlaps with a portion other than a part of the first substrate main face and is bonded to the first substrate, a first region where the control wiring in a part of the first substrate main surface is formed is separated from the end of the part, and a pattern made of a material different from glass is formed in the second region. Chemical polishing to strengthen the first substrate is applied to the second region of the main surface, and is not applied to the first region surrounded by it. Accordingly, the control wiring is prevented from being deteriorated, and the progressing state of the chemical polishing of the first substrate is confirmed by changes in colors and glosses by chemical polishing of the pattern formed in the second region. Thereby, flaws which may fracture glass are sufficiently removed from the first substrate and the chemical polishing is managed so that the first substrate does not becomes too thin.
