<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the dimension of a core and decrease the radius of its curvature as to an optical waveguide element. <P>SOLUTION: This waveguide element includes a first clad layer 30, a waveguide layer 40, and a second clad layer 50 in order on a substrate 20. The waveguide layer 40 includes a core 42 and side clads 44 provided at locations horizontally holding a core 42 between.
