PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a card-type electronic key with high security, which is excellent in portability and which is equipped with a mechanical key for emergency, hardly capable of being copied for illicit purposes. SOLUTION: This card-type electronic key 1 is equipped with a communication circuit portion 13 which permits the control of in-vehicle equipment, provided in a vehicle, in the case of a normal ID code by transmitting an electric wave, including the ID code, to a communication control unit provided in the vehicle. The card-type electronic key 1 is also equipped with a key card portion 14 which is integrated with the communication circuit portion 13 and formed like a card and in which an arrangement pattern of a plurality of through-holes 14h etc. pierced in a direction almost perpendicular to the face direction of the card serves as a collating code.
