A composition for protecting nerve cell and preventing and treating cerebral ischemic injury is provided to reduce the degree of cerebral infarction and improve neurological index result. A method for manufacturing a fraction of Sophora flavescens for preventing or treating cerebral ischemic injury comprises: a first step of dipping the Sophora flavescens in methanol and filtering with filtering paper; a second step of adding hexane; a third step of adding ethylacetate and distilled water in the volume ratio of 1:1 and fractioning and a fourth step of separating ethylacetate fraction layer and water layer and decompressing the ethylacetate layer to fraction ethylacetate (EtOAc) fraction.
