The invention relates to a household appliance 1 and to a method for drying a damp item 2 by means of an air current, which can be conducted in a substantially enclosed dry air channel 3 and driven by a fan 4. The air current can flow through a treatment chamber 5 with the item 2, a cooling arrangement 6, 7 for cooling the air current 3 and removing moisture from the air current by condensation after it has flown through the treatment chamber 5, and a heating arrangement 8 for heating the air current before it flows through the treatment chamber 5. To this end, the cooling arrangement 6, 7 has a first heat exchanger 6, by means of which heat from the air current can be fed to a process gas that is conducted in a regenerative gas circulation process, and the heating arrangement 8 has a second heat exchanger 8, by means of which heat from the process gas can be fed to the air current. ® KIPO & WIPO 2009
