PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic original cover plate opening/closing device which is capable of preventing an original cover plate from being bent at the middle thereof, when the original cover plate is manually closed and manually opening the original cover plate, without feeling weight. SOLUTION: The automatic original cover plate opening/closing device includes: a hinge portion openably and closably supporting the original cover plate with respect to a machine body; and a driving portion automatically operating the hinge portion. The hinge portion includes: a supporting member journaled by the machine body, so as to be rotated around a rotation shaft together with it; a lift member journaled by the supporting member and attached to the original cover plate; and an elastic means rotationally energizing the original cover plate in an opening direction through the lift member. The driving portion includes: a driving motor; and a driving force transmitting means transmitting the rotational driving force of the driving motor to the rotation shaft, in such a manner that speed is reduced. On the way of the transmission path of the rotational driving force, there is provided a clutch means releasing the transmission to the side of the driving motor of the rotational driving force of the rotation shaft, up to a prescribed opening position, when the original cover plate is manually opened and closed.
