PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily retrieve a similar image similar to an arbitrary image. SOLUTION: When a user selects an arbitrary photographic image, a digital camera 4 acquires fractal data expressing structural features as an image about each photographic object in the photographic image, and transmits them to a retrieving server 2. The retrieving server 2 stores a plurality of pieces of the fractal data showing the structural features as an image of a specific object and keywords expressing the specific objects corresponding to each piece of the fractal data, and performs keyword retrieval of the image on the Internet 1 with the keyword corresponding to the sent fractal data as a retrieval keyword. The retrieving server 2 acquires the fractal data about each photographic object in the image of a retrieval result, and calculates a coincidence degree based on similarity between the acquired fractal data and the fractal data sent from the digital camera 4, and successively transmits the image whose coincidence degree is a certain reference or above to the digital camera 4 according to priority order according to the coincidence degree as a final retrieval result.
