PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a "device drive system and device access method" for improving the performance of a device capable of performing high speed access. SOLUTION: In this device drive system, at least two devices (HDD, DVD drive) and a host device are connected to a bus, and the prescribed device is accessed by the host device so that data transfer can be performed between the host device and the device. The prescribed amounts of data read from a first device (DVD drive) are stored in the buffer, and the data are successively read from the buffer at a normal speed so as to be reproduced. The host device monitors whether or not the amounts of unprocessed data stored in the buffer are equal to or less than set amounts, and when the amounts of unprocessed data are larger than the set amounts, the host device gives priority to the data transfer with the HDD, and when the amounts of unprocessed data are less than the set amounts, the host device performs data transfer with the DVD drive.
