PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable thumbnails to be displayed in the same manner as regular moving image files in which management information is present, even when various pieces of management information are not present. SOLUTION: When content data recorded in a recording medium is reproduced, an index display function of displaying a plurality of representative images of the content data is used. For the representative images of the content data recorded in the recording medium, the representative images of the content data in which various pieces of management information are not present are displayed on one picture in the same manner as the representative images of regular content data in which various pieces of management information are present. Accordingly, the representative images of content data recorded in the recording medium 224 can be displayed even when inconsistency in a management file such as a content reproduction list file and a time map file occurs.
