PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester resin for electrostatic charge image developing toner which is a recycled polyester resin and is superior in initial image quality, fixability at low temperature, image quality at high temperature and high humidity, and electrification at high temperature and high humidity when it is used for an electrostatic charge image developing toner. SOLUTION: The polyester resin for electrostatic charge image developing toner is a recycled polyester resin having alkylene phthalate structure as the constituent unit, contains a depolymerizing catalyst, and has HFIP-insoluble matter of 1-30 wt.% at 25°C. A method of manufacturing the polyester resin for electrostatic charge image developing toner includes a process in which a composition, which includes a polyester resin (a) which contains alkylene phthalate structure as the constituent unit, a polycondensable monomer (b) and a depolymerizing catalyst (c), is subjected to depolymerization and polycondensation to get the polyester resin (d) having HFIP-insoluble matter of 1-30 wt.% at 25.
