<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ship propulsion device capable of suppressing noise and impact even when thrust force fluctuates. <P>SOLUTION: The ship propulsion device comprises a drive bevel gear 15 fixed on a lower end of a drive shaft 12, a forward bevel gear 16 and backward bevel gear 17 rotatably fitted to a propeller shaft 14, and meshing with the drive bevel gear 15, and a dog clutch 18, which is mounted on the propeller shaft 14, rotates with the propeller shaft 14, moves in an axial direction of the propeller shaft, meshes with the forward bevel gear 16 or backward bevel gear 17, and rotates the propeller shaft 14.
