The shelf (1) has a cover (18) situated atlevel of a lower edge (26) of upper parts (10-12) of a backrest of rear seats (13-15), which are driven to move from a folded position to a released position allowing to access a storage compartment (4) of a motor vehicle. The storage compartment is accessible from a passenger compartment of the vehicle by actuating the cover. The cover is rotatably mounted around a transversal rotational axis (R1) of the vehicle.
