PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method effectively and safely starting a gas turbine. SOLUTION: This gas turbine starting method includes: a phase of performing a pre-purge cycle of a discharge duct 28 of the turbine 20; a phase of performing the first try in ignition by setting a predetermined minimum value FSR<SB>1</SB>on a flow rate of gas fuel flowing in a combustor 14 over a period sufficient for performing the first try in the ignition; a phase of performing an intermediate purge cycle of the discharge duct 28 in a state of interrupting a flow of the gas fuel to the combustor 14; and a phase of performing a further trial in the ignition by gradually increasing a value FSR<SB>n</SB>of the flow rate of the gas fuel flowing in the combustor 14 until an air-fuel mixture of air/gas fuel is ignited, and starting of the turbine 20 is caused in succession to this ignition, or until the flow rate of the gas fuel reaches a predetermined maximum value FSR<SB>max</SB>.
