<p>Disclosed is an organic luminescent medium containing a specific diaminopyrene derivative and a specific anthracene derivative. Also disclosed is an organic electroluminescent device wherein one or more organic thin film layers including a light-emitting layer are arranged between a cathode and an anode, and at least one of the organic thin film layers contains the organic luminescent medium. By having such a constitution, the organic EL device can emit light of a short wavelength (for example, a blue light) with high luminous efficiency, while having long life. The organic luminescent medium can be used in an organic thin film layer of such an organic EL device.</p>
