PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce an exclusive member for suppressing occurrence of a loop of a sheet to be fed and an exclusive guide member for guiding the sheet from a front end to a separation nip part. SOLUTION: The sheet feeding device is provided with a first sheet detection lever turned by being abutted to the sheet on a stacking tray, a second sheet detection lever turned by being abutted to the sheet in the vicinity of a pressure contact part of a feeding means and a separating means, and a sensor for detecting turning of the sheet detection levers. The first sheet detection lever and the second sheet detection lever interlock with each other, and existence of the sheet can be detected when at least one of the levers is abutted to the sheet. Further, the second sheet detection lever is turned to a position narrowing a feeding passage, and the sheet is guided to the pressure contact part. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
