[Class 83 (iv)] [Also in Group XL (a)] Tungsten &c. wire is formed into spaced coils for spiral non-inductance filaments of thermionic valves by enclosing the wire in a sheath having flat sides coiling the sheath and then removing the sheath by etching &c. The wire 15 is enclosed on copper &c. tube 15 or is electrolytically coated and the coating is flattened. The sheathed wire is then coiled by pins 18, 19 on a rotary table 17. Solder indium &c. is applied and a nickel plate clamped over the coil to preserve the shape and it is removed from the coiler. The coil is then annealed and the coating removed by nitric acid &c. The coil may be clamped by a rigid bar during annealing and etching. |
