<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of efficiently recovering a precious metal such as platinum used for a catalyst from an electrode material for a fuel cell without generating subsidiary toxic substances including hydrogen fluoride gas. <P>SOLUTION: After oxidation treatment is applied to the water repellent electrode material including the precious metal catalyst into a hydrophilic form, the precious metal is recovered with wet leaching treatment. In the oxidation treatment to the electrode material, fluid for oxidizing the electrode material is preferably supplied to the electrode material via a reaction agent flow path formed in the fuel cell.
