PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the luminance in each pixel uniform to improve the image quality in a laser projector wherein gradations are expressed by dividing a display period of a pixel into a plurality of sections and dividing the pixel into a plurality of regions. SOLUTION: In a laser projector 100, respective luminance values of the prescribed number of gradations and segment signals which are combined in order to express the luminance values and correspond to intensities of individual segment gradations are stored in a storage means in association with each other, and a determination means refers to the storage means to determine segment signals of individual segment gradations corresponding to luminance values of respective pixels constituting an image, and a signal output means divides the display period of each pixel into n sections and outputs respective segment signals of individual segment gradations, which are determined by the determination means, to a light source in each of divided sections sequentially in a prescribed order other than an intensity ascending or descending order.
