A pneumatic tire in which air column resonance noise is reduced without degrading water discharge performance. The pneumatic tire has formed in its tread a main groove (1) extending in the tire's circumferential direction. The main groove (1) has fine grooves (11) in its side wall (3). That end (11a) of each fine groove (11) which is on the tread side does not open in the surface of the tread, and the end (11a) is located closest to the tread. Also, that end (11b) of the fine groove (11) which is on the groove bottom side does not open in a groove bottom (1b) of the main groove (1), and the end (11b) is located closest to the groove bottom. The length L1 of each fine groove (11) measured in the direction of the depth of the main groove (1) is 50 - 80% of the depth D of the main groove (1). The fine groove (11) has at least one or more bends (21). The length L2 of the fine groove (11) measured along the fine groove (11) itself is not less than 1.03 times but not more than 2 times the L1.
