PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a magnetic recording medium for forming a magnetic pattern after film-forming a magnetic layer on a substrate, the method achieving reduction in defective product and a manufacturing cost. SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing the magnetic recording medium having a magnetically separated magnetic recording pattern sequentially includes: a step of forming the magnetic layer on the substrate having an aperture part in its center; a step of applying a resin film onto the magnetic layer; a step of pressing a film-shaped mold in which a rugged pattern has been formed to the substrate; a step of transferring the rugged pattern of the mold to the resin film; a step of peeling the mold from the substrate and a step of forming the magnetic recording pattern on the magnetic layer using the transferred rugged pattern.
