THE PER LINK AVAILABLE BANDWIDTH MEASUREMENT METHOD USING THE TOTAL LENGTH FIELD IN IP PACKET HEADER AND THE AVAILABLE BANDWIDTH INFORMATION OF A LINK MANAGEMENT METHOD

An available bandwidth measurement method for each link by using a total length field of an IP packet header and an available bandwidth information management method of the links are provided to count the number of packets incoming during unit time of each router, thereby calculating an amount of packets that occupy substantial links. Packets incoming from routers are monitored(202). Values of total length fields within header fields of the incoming packets are captured and accumulated per unit time by IP version(204-208). Occupying bandwidths that the packets occupy bandwidths of links per unit time are calculated by using the accumulated values(212). The occupying bandwidths are subtracted from the bandwidths of the links to calculate available bandwidths. In case of an IPv6 network, 40 bytes are added to payload length values to calculate an amount of overall packets.
