PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods of diagnosis, prognosis and therapy of cancers related with the OBCAM and NTM genes which methods are particularly suited to ovarian and colorectal cancers. SOLUTION: The method for diagnosing cancer of a patient includes (i) a step for obtaining from the patient a sample containing nucleic acids, and (ii) a step for contacting the nucleic acid with (a) a nucleic acid selectively hybridizing with the OBCAM gene or a mutant allele thereof, or nucleic acid hybridizing with the cDNA of the OBCAM or a mutant allele thereof, or a complement thereof, (b) a nucleic acid selectively hybridizing with NTM gene or a mutant allele thereof, or a nucleic acid selectively hybridizing with the cDNA of the NTM or a mutant allele thereof, or a complement thereof, or (c) the both of (a) and (b).
