PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotating electric machine connected to an engine by a belt, capable of performing both power generating operation and driving operation, and capable of suppressing fluctuation in tension of the belt. SOLUTION: The rotating electric machine is equipped with a stator fixed to a bracket, a rotor rotatably supported by the bracket and connected to an output shaft of the engine via the belt, and a clutch mechanism for controlling torque transmission between the rotor and the belt. The clutch mechanism is able to perform the torque transmission to only one direction from the engine to the rotating electric machine at the time of the power generating operation of the rotating electric machine, and is controlled to enable mutual torque transmission between the engine and the rotating electric machine based on field current of the rotating electric machine at the time of the driving operation of the rotating electric machine.
