PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide high grade polylactic acid staple fibers excellent in hydrolysis resistance and dyeability. SOLUTION: Provided are the polylactic acid staple fibers in which the carboxyl groups of polylactic acid chain ends are sealed with a tri- or more-functional epoxy compound; the surfaces of the fibers are covered with a fatty acid bisamide and/or an alkyl substituted fatty acid monoamide; and the existence rate of devitrified fibers is 10% or less; and a method for producing the same.
