GAS DIFFUSION LAYER FOR POLYMER ELECTROLYTE FUEL CELLS AND A METHOD FOR MAKING THE SAME

A method for manufacturing a gas diffusion layer for a polymer electrolyte fuel cell is provided to obtain a gas diffusion layer having the pores, surface and electrical properties suitable for the use by varying the surface characteristics of a carbon porous base. A method for manufacturing a gas diffusion layer comprises the steps of coating a conductive polymer solution on the one surface of a porous carbon base and drying it; carbonizing the base without separate oxidation process; dipping the base in a hydrophobic polymer solution and drying it; and sintering the base, thereby preparing a gas diffusion layer which performs the fluid diffusion and the electron transfer so as to assist the electrochemical reaction.
