PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a downshift control device capable of controlling downshift accompanied by an auxiliary brake according to a traffic situation. SOLUTION: The downshift control device 6 for a vehicle having an automatic transmission 5 capable of performing downshift accompanied by the operation of the auxiliary brake 3 is operated as an inter-vehicle distance determination means for comparing an inter-vehicle distance detected by a radar 8 with a threshold during the operation of the auxiliary brake 3 and a gear shift executing means for allowing the downshift of the automatic transmission 5 when the inter-vehicle distance reaches the threshold or lower and suppressing the downshift of the automatic transmission 5 when the inter-vehicle distance exceeds the threshold.
