<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light diffuser which can diffuse light selectively in a desired direction and can suppress uneven luminance and lamp images stably with high reproducibility even when the number of cold-cathode tubes consisting a backlight is reduced to result in a large space between cold-cathode tubes, a method for producing the light diffuser, and a backlight unit having such characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: The light diffuser has a light diffusion layer wherein crosslinked organic fine particles are dispersed in thermoplastic resin, and a refractive index of the crosslinked organic fine particles and a refractive index of the thermoplastic resin are different. A crosslink density of a polymer composing the crosslinked organic fine particles defined by a formula 1 of the crosslink density (%)=[äFn(c)/Mw(c)}*äW(c)}*100]/äW(m)+W(c)} is within a prescribed range. An aspect ratio of the crosslinked organic fine particles is larger than one, at least one surface has a cylindrical lens array, and a major axis direction of the crosslinked organic fin particles is substantially the same as a lengthwise direction of a cylindrical lens. In the formula 1, Fn(c) indicates the number of crosslinking functional groups of a crosslinking agent used in production of the crosslinked organic fine particles, Mw(c) indicates a molecular weight of the crosslinking agent used in production of the crosslinked organic fine particles, W(c) indicates a mass percentage of the crosslinking agent used in production of the crosslinked organic fine particles with respect to a total of a monomer and the crosslinking agent, and W(m) indicates a mass percentage of the monomer used in production of the crosslinked organic fine particles with respect to the total of the monomer and the crosslinking agent. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
