Medical systems and devices are disclosed for passing a needle and suturing a perforation in tissue, that may be employed endoscopically and/or laparoscopically, and that offer simple, reliable and controllable placement of suture around a perforation for complete closure thereof. One embodiment of the medical system generally includes an endoscope (22), an endcap (26), a needle (28), a suture (36), and first and second grip systems (30,32) configured for relative translation to selectively pass the needle between the first and second grip systems.
