PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detergent composition for clothing having higher detergency. SOLUTION: The detergent composition for clothing includes: (a) glyceryl monoether or polyglyceryl monoether expressed by general formula (I): R-O-(C<SB>3</SB>H<SB>6</SB>O<SB>2</SB>)<SB>n</SB>-H; and (b) a sulfate ester salt selected from sulfate ester salts expressed by general formula (II): R<SP>1</SP>-O-SO<SB>3</SB>M and sulfate ester salts expressed by general formula (III): R<SP>1</SP>-O-(EO)<SB>m</SB>-(AO)<SB>l</SB>-SO<SB>3</SB>M, wherein the component (a) has a specific compound distribution. In formula (I), R represents a 6-22C hydrocarbon group; and n is an integer representing a degree of glycerin condensation. In formulae (II) and (III), R<SP>1</SP>represents a 6-22C hydrocarbon group; EO represents an oxyethylene group; AO represents a specific oxyalkylene group; m is an integer from 1 to 10; l is an integer from 0 to 10; and M represents an alkali metal or the like.
