#CMT# #/CMT# The method involves operating an internal combustion engine with self ignition in a partial load region in an operating mode. Model-supported predictive regulation of a combustion process is performed based on a model of the combustion process under consideration of a planned adjustment intervention and a model parameter of the combustion process. The model parameter is adjusted during the presence of a pre-determined condition to optimize the model.
