The invention relates to magnetic polymer granules in the form of a polymer matrix and a solid filler and to a method for forming gel plugs. The inventive polymer granule is in the form of a gel matrix which is made of an anion polymer cross-linked by the cations of multivalent metals and in which ferromagnetic microparticles are dispersed at the weight concentration ratio between the ferromagnetic microparticles and the anion polymer ranging from 0.5 to 5. The inventive method for forming a locking gel plug involves delivering the polymer granules to the gel plug formation area and in forming a locking gel plug by intensively swelling the granules increasing the pH of an environmental medium to a pH value >7 in a confined volume, in which they are retained by an external magnetic field.
