Even for such a steering column structure as a plurality of interference objects existing below the rear end side of the steering column, the knees of a crewman are restricted quickly while shrinkage operation of a column tube is suppressed or prevented from being impeded as much as possible in the case of front collision. The steering column (12) is secured to the body side by means of a lower bracket (46), an upper bracket (44) and a housing (48), and a combination switch (68) is arranged on the rear end side of an inner tube (36). The lower portions (48A, 70A) of the both are arranged oppositely while projecting to below the column tube (26), and an air bag module (64) is installed in an installation space (74) formed between the both. A module case (54) is made of cloth, and the air bag module (64) is set at a position adjacent to the combination switch (68) through a rear side fixing bracket (76). Consequently, shrinkage operation of the column tube (26) is not impeded in the case of front collision. |
