PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device capable of determining connection state of an optical fiber easily at a working site. SOLUTION: The connection state is determined such that: at the upstream side of the connection point of an optical fiber to the longitudinal direction of the optical fiber, stresses are imparted with a specific interval, and a first intensity of leakage light from the optical fiber is detected (step S1); at the downstream side of the connection point of the optical fiber to the longitudinal direction of the optical fiber, stresses are imparted with a specific interval, and a second intensity of the leakage light from the optical fiber is detected (step S2); and by the difference or ratio of the first intensity and the second intensity of the leakage light, the difference of magnitude or qualities of the connection losses of the connection points are determined (steps S3 to S6).
