<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller for an internal combustion engine which can solve the problem, involved in a system having data on charging efficiencies regarding all of combinations in a transition variable valve in a map form in ECU, that, due to the presence of a very large number of transient states in an engine, a very large memory capacity is required in ECU and, further, a satisfactory accuracy cannot be ensured when the charging efficiency corresponding to a variable valve operation level in transition by linear interpolation using a plurality of charging efficiency maps obtained by providing variable valve operation levels discretely. <P>SOLUTION: The controller includes a means that computes an intake air amount in a steady state of the internal combustion engine by a regression model based on the speed of rotation of the internal combustion engine, intake air pipe pressure, and valve lift properties of the variable valve. The controller further includes a means that corrects the delay level of a flow rate detected by an intake air flow rate detection means based on a change in an intake air amount caused by a change in the operation of the variable valve computed by the regression model and estimates a cylinder intake air amount in the internal combustion engine. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
