<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a varistor mountable in high density, having an excellent varistor characteristic, and sufficiently reducing variations in resistance. <P>SOLUTION: This varistor 1 has a varistor element body 10, a pair of external electrodes 30a and 30b on one main surface of the varistor element body 10, and a resistor 60 on the main surface. The resistor 60 is arranged so as to connect the pair of external electrodes 30a and 30b, and the varistor element body 10 includes zinc oxide as a main component, and Ca oxide, Si oxide and oxide of rare earth metal as sub-components. The ratio X of the Ca oxide in terms of Ca atom number to the main component of 100 mole is set to 2-80 atomic%, and the ratio Y of the Si oxide in terms of Si atom number to the main component of 100 mole is set to 1-40 atomic%, and X/Y satisfies following formula (1).
