A zinc-silver secondary cell consists as shown in Fig. 1 of a U-shaped positive electrode 11 between two negative electrodes 10, 12. Each electrode consists of an envelope or wrapping of semi-permeable material such as regenerated cellulose and is filled with active material which is zinc or zinc hydroxide for the negative electrode and silver or silver oxide for the positive. The thickness of the wrapping round the positive electrode is greater than that round the negative electrode. A battery of such cells is provided with a gas vent which prevents the entry of air and which consists as shown in Fig. 2 of a conical rubber nipple 35 provided with a small opening and covering a tubular projection 34 on the battery cover. The projection 34 may be loosely plugged with blotting paper. Specifications 680,793, 682,164, 682,165 and 2795/49 (as open to inspection under Sect. 91) are referred to. |
