PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device reducing a driving voltage and improving light transmittance. SOLUTION: The display device includes a first substrate; a second substrate arranged facing the first substrate; a liquid crystal layer arranged between the first substrate and the second substrate; a first electrode and a second electrode formed on the first substrate; and a protrusion disposed under one of the first electrode and second electrode. The liquid crystal layer changes into an isotropic state when no electric field is applied, and into an anisotropic state when an electric field is applied. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
