The pump (6) has a drive shaft (10) freely rotated in a pump casing (8)and connected to a rotatable cam shaft (2) of a multicylinder four stroke internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle. A sensor (14) i.e. magnetic reluctance sensor, detects the rotation of the shaft (10). The shaft (10) has a side portion that is provided with a groove (12) forming a target. The casing has a cavity that receives the sensor with respect to the shaft.
