PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus constituted to prevent occurrence of an abnormal image in transfer which the thickness of transfer paper affects. SOLUTION: The color image forming apparatus includes a plurality of carriers 3, on which electrostatic latent images are formed; a developing means 8 that develops the electrostatic latent images to form images; an intermediate transfer belt 2 on which the images formed by the developing means 8 are sequentially overlapped; a secondary transfer body 9A, that transfers the image formed on the intermediate transfer belt 2 to a recording medium; and a registration roller 1B3 used to feed the recording medium to the secondary transfer body 9A. A linear speed difference ä(V0-V1)/V0} between the intermediate transfer belt 2 and the secondary transfer body 9A is set to be variable, on the basis of a basis weight of a transfer paper.
