PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To recover beryllium metal free from radioactive contamination in a form of easy-to-handle blobs from spent beryllium contaminated with radioactivity by eliminating the difficulty in handling it as a radioactive contaminant owing to tritium and decreasing the used energy. SOLUTION: A heating component, a beryllium blob separation means, a fall-down path and a beryllium blob cooling and accommodating component are set up in an interior space of a device. In the heating component, tritium contained in a lump of beryllium is extracted by heating it and the lump of beryllium from which tritium has been extracted is molten by being heated further. In the beryllium blob separation means, a prescribed state reached by the heating temperature of the heating component allows gravity to act on the molten lump of beryllium to drip and separate it in a form of beryllium blobs. In the fall-down path, the dripped and separated beryllium blobs fall down in the gravity drop direction. In the beryllium blob cooling and accommodating component, the beryllium blobs falling down are cooled and accommodated. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
