PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a joint structure for steel pipe sheet piles, which maintains the water cutoff performance thereof even if the steel pipe sheet piles are dislocated, and to provide a method of constructing an earth retaining wall. SOLUTION: The joint structure A for the steel pipe sheet piles 10 connects between two joint steel pipes 12, 12 each having a slit 13 formed therein along a longitudinal direction, by engaging the joint steel pipes in each other. Herein three spaces a1, a2, a3 are partitioned by the two joint steel pipes 12, 12, and sections of the two spaces a1, a2 out of the three spaces, that are located in the ground, are filled with a bentonite inorganic water cutoff material 14, and the remaining one space a3 is filled with mortar 15.
