<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a packet exchange device which can comprehend whether a bypass module bypassing during the failure of the packet exchange device is a bypass state or a non-bypass state. <P>SOLUTION: The packet exchange device 1a configuring a network system judges that a bypass module 2b of a packet exchange device 1b is in a non-bypass state when a source MAC address of an adjoining device identifying packet from an adjoining packet exchange device 1b received from a packet transmitting/receiving portion 3a is the same as a source MAC address preliminarily recorded in a packet recording portion 8a.
