A piston position detecting device for a fluid pressure cylinder is provided to protect a position sensor and a locking screw from a spatter by a protecting cover during welding and simplify the attachment of the protecting cover. A piston position detecting device for a fluid pressure cylinder includes locking screws(25) for fixing a position sensor(21) to the outer surface of a cylinder tube by a sensor-attaching metal element(22), and a protecting cover(24) having a nut plate(24d) to be fitted with the locking screws and covering the position sensor and the locking screws.
